The idea of a common World Cup Tour in the Nordic countries was first launched during the federations meeting NORD in 2008.

The main objective for the Nordic Orienteering Tour is to raise the profile of orienteering by using attractive competition formats, substancial prizemoney for athletes and quality TV-/arena production. NORT aims to take orienteering into the future and closer towards the main goal of the Olympic Games.

In 2010 the Nordic Orienteering Tour will be launched with three stages and a total prizemoney of 27 000 EUR, the highest amount of prizemoney ever for a World Cup event or series.

For the future NORT aims to include from four to six races.
